

Speaking to TOI, deputy transport commissioner (DTC), Vizag, GC Raja Ratnam said they have launched special drives to check the fitness of school buses. Though the bus was registered in the name of a school, it was used by another school. The RTA officials said the bus did not have a fitness certificate. He lost control over the vehicle and it veered off the road. The police have observed rash and negligent driving on the part of the driver. The bus belonging to a private school was transporting six students to the school when it met with the accident.

It may be recalled that an eight-year-old student of a private school, M Raju, was killed and five others suffered injuries when the bus of a school fell into a pond near Koyyam village under Etcherla mandal in Srikakulam district on Wednesday.
